It started about 26 years ago when I had to dump some waste at the waste disposal point. There was a chest freezer there with walls as thick as 15 cm coated with zinc and with a Frigibell emblem( see F chest) What an awesome emblem it was, I was stunned! Gently I removed the plate, refurbished it and nailed it on a piece of softboard in my father’s retail shop, where we sold refrigerators and washing machines. My hobby was born. There was a recycling plant for old refrigerators and freezers in the neighborhood, so the next day I went there with some biscuits to bribe them. I stayed there for about 3 or 4 hours
and found 24 new emblems. Every week I went there with my screwdriver, knife, putty knife and a hammer ,a.k.a my survival kit. My collection was getting bigger and bigger. I had emblems ranging from one up to over sixty years old. After several years of collecting, unfortunately, the biggest problem occurred: the recycling plant had
to close its doors. So no more weekly visits searching through old refrigerators and freezers, no more feeling Of finding another treasure. After my collecting was put on a hold for some time,
I found a new emblem at a store that I was visiting for a repair, and I was back in business.
Shortly after, I created a Facebook page (Refrigerator Emblems of the world). This way I met an American, he was so amazed by my collection he instantly send me a picture of a box full of emblems he had gathered in years. In 2014 I came across a website, two Russians guys were also collecting logos from before 1970’s! It turned out I wasn't the only one in the world. I got in touch with them, and we trade some Russian emblems for European ones.
Now i have American emblems, emblems from Russia, Australia, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, and probably from every country in Europe...
enjoy the design and beauty from them.
Back then a fridge was something like a car.
They where expensive, ( at least a month salary) a great design and they had to outstand the other manufacturer.
So those emblems tell a story, gave you a feeling , gave status and where made with craftsmanship. The most of these emblems are over 50 years!
That's why the emblems interested me so much. Nowadays it is a stamp or sticker.
See for yourself and let me know what you think about it. What do you like and why...
Enjoy
Richard
